Project Overview
Redhill Services completed our first Tesla Powerwall 3 installation in Norfolk, delivering a premium solar and battery storage solution for a homeowner looking to maximise energy independence and take advantage of smart energy tariffs. The project combined a high-performance solar PV system with Tesla’s latest battery technology, providing whole-home backup power and intelligent energy management.
Challenges
- The customer wanted a future-proof energy system with maximum battery storage
- They required whole-house backup power in the event of a power cut.
- The system needed to support smart tariff optimisation, allowing electricity to be bought and sold at the most cost-effective times.
- Long-term protection was needed to prevent birds nesting beneath the solar panels.
Our Solution
- Tesla Powerwall Installation: We installed a Tesla Powerwall 3, together with an expansion battery and Tesla Gateway, providing a total of 27kWh of battery storage and full-home backup capabilities.
- High-Performance Solar PV System: We fitted 24 Jinko Solar 440W panels across two roof elevations, delivering a total system size of 10.5kW.
- Smart Energy Management: The system was configured to work alongside smart energy tariffs, enabling the customer to charge the batteries when electricity prices are low and export stored energy back to the grid when prices increase.
- Bird Protection: We installed bird brush protection around the solar panels to prevent nesting birds and help protect the longevity of the system.
Outcome
The completed installation is expected to generate approximately 8,296kWh of electricity each year, significantly reducing the homeowner’s reliance on the grid. With 27kWh of battery storage, the customer now benefits from whole-home backup during power outages and can maximise savings by taking advantage of smart tariffs. By buying electricity at lower overnight rates and exporting surplus energy when prices are higher, the system offers a faster return on investment while providing greater energy security.
