Project Overview
Redhill Services installed an 8.8kWp solar PV system with Tesla Powerwall 3 battery storage for a homeowner in Norwich. Working alongside the customer’s roofing contractors during reroofing works, we delivered an integrated solar installation with 27kWh of battery storage, whole-home backup and the flexibility to export stored electricity at peak times.
The project also included upgrading the property’s consumer unit and assessing the condition of the existing electrical installation.
Challenges
- Coordinating the solar installation with the customer’s roofing works.
- Integrating the panels into the roof for a neat, streamlined appearance.
- Routing cabling from the existing electricity supply in the basement to the garage, where the batteries could be safely positioned away from the home.
- Upgrading an outdated consumer unit and checking the existing electrical installation.
- Providing sufficient storage for household use alongside peak-time energy exports.
Our Solution
- Integrated Solar Panels: We fitted 20 × 440W solar panels, providing a total installed capacity of 8.8kWp. We also installed a GSE in-roof mounting system integrated the panels into the roof for a sleek finish.
- Coordinated Installation: We worked with the customer’s roofing contractors to ensure panels were installed effectively alongside the reroofing works.
- Tesla Battery Storage: We installed a Tesla Powerwall 3 and an expansion battery in the garage, providing 27kWh of storage for household use and electricity exports.
- Whole-Home Backup: A Tesla Gateway enables the system to provide backup power to the home during a power cut.
- Electrical Upgrades: We replaced the outdated consumer unit and carried out an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR).
- Cable Routing and Identification: We routed cabling between the basement supply and garage, with clearly labelled solar DC cable routes.
Outcome
The completed solar PV system is expected to generate approximately 7,000kWh of electricity annually. Combined with 27kWh of battery storage, it also gives the homeowner greater flexibility to store energy for use at home as well as selling stored electricity back to the grid during peak hours.
The Norwich property’s whole-home backup adds resilience during power cuts, while the in-roof panels provide a clean finish that complements the newly reroofed tiles.
