Project Overview
Redhill Services recently completed a large-scale EV charging installation for a commercial client in Wymondham. The customer required five 22kW three-phase EV chargers to support both staff and public charging at their premises.
Challenges
- High electrical load requiring infrastructure upgrades.
- Safe integration of multiple high-capacity chargers.
- Ensuring the system didn’t overload the existing supply.
- Enabling staff-specific access and public charging options.
- Supporting the customer with an infrastructure grant application.
Our Solution
- Infrastructure Upgrade: We installed a new 200A switch fuse sub-main and dedicated distribution board to safely handle the load for all five EV chargers.
- Load Balancing System: To protect the property’s main fuse, we fitted a SYNC load balancing device that intelligently distributes power across the chargers.
- EV Charger Selection: We installed five SYNC EV wall chargers, each equipped with RFID functionality and integrated via the Monza app.
- Access Control & Management: Each charger has a unique RFID key fob for staff, while the business also retains the option to charge the public for usage.
- Grant Support: We assisted the customer in securing the OLEF (On-street Residential Chargepoint Scheme) infrastructure grant, which covered approximately £4,250 of the project cost.
Outcome
The result is a robust, future-ready EV charging infrastructure that supports staff use and public access while maintaining load safety. The client now benefits from cost savings via the grant, intelligent charging control, and the ability to generate income through public usage.
