Project Overview
Redhill Services designed and installed a solar PV and battery storage system for a homeowner on Woodcock Road, with a focus on maximising efficiency despite limited roof space. The customer also wanted to integrate EV charging and take advantage of off-peak energy tariffs.
Challenges
- Limited roof space, restricting the number of solar panels.
- Lower potential solar generation due to system size.
- Requirement to integrate battery storage and EV charging efficiently.
- Optimising energy usage using off-peak tariffs (Octopus Intelligent Go).
Our Solution
- Compact Solar Installation: We installed 7 solar panels, making the most of the available roof space while still providing renewable generation.
- Large Battery Storage: To offset limited solar output, we installed a 12kWh battery, allowing the homeowner to store energy for later use.
- Off-Peak Charging Strategy: The system was configured to charge the battery using Octopus Intelligent Go’s cheaper overnight tariff, ensuring cost-effective energy usage.
- Integrated EV Charger: We installed a Fox L EV charger, which works seamlessly with the solar and battery system.
- Unified Smart Control: Both the solar system and EV charger are managed through a single app, giving the homeowner full visibility and control.
Outcome
Despite the limitations of a smaller solar array, the homeowner now benefits from a highly efficient and flexible energy system. By combining battery storage with off-peak charging and EV integration, they can significantly reduce energy costs while maintaining convenience. The unified app control also makes managing the system simple and user-friendly.
