Project Overview
Redhill Services completed a full solar PV upgrade for a new build property in Brooke. The home originally had a small system installed by the builder, consisting of just four panels (approximately 1.7kW) on a standard string inverter, with no battery storage. The homeowner, relying on an air source heat pump, required a much more capable system to handle high electricity usage.
Challenges
- The existing system was significantly undersized for the property’s energy demand.
- No battery storage meant excess solar energy was being lost to the grid.
- The home’s all-electric setup, including an air source heat pump, required a more robust and efficient solution.
Our Solution
- Full System Upgrade: We removed the original 1.7kW system and installed a new array of 16 high-efficiency panels, delivering just under 7kW of solar generation.
- Hybrid Inverter Installation: A hybrid inverter was fitted to allow seamless integration with battery storage and improved energy management.
- Battery Storage: We installed 12kWh of battery storage, enabling the homeowner to store and use their own energy rather than relying on the grid.
- Future-Proof Design: The system was designed specifically to support the demands of an air source heat pump and overall high household consumption.
Outcome
The upgraded system has transformed the property’s energy performance. The homeowner is now expected to save between £1,300 and £1,500 per year on energy bills, with a projected payback period of as little as seven years. The addition of battery storage ensures maximum use of generated solar energy, significantly improving efficiency and reducing reliance on external energy sources.
